Happy New Year!!

Once Again, sorry for the delay in updating the blog. Things here have been very busy! We hope that everyone had wonderful holidays, and a happy new year. I am sure you are all waiting anxiously for spring just as we are!

It is so hard to believe that Madison is almost three years old! I cannot believe that my baby is not a baby anymore :( She is 2 going on 16 these days anyways. She insists that she is a "grownup" and offers to let me stay home to rest while she takes my car to the store! Boy am I in trouble when she gets older!

After many conversations with the dr, much research, and an evaluation at NYU Child Study Center Madison has been diagnosed with Encopresis. Basically what this is fecal incontinence. Due to problems with constipation and an anal fissure Madison began withholding her bowel movements which has caused a lot of problems for her- physically and emotionally. From all of the holding she has lost function of her bowels. She is no longer able to have bowel movements on the toilet and only has them at all because of medication. It is in Madison's head at this point in time, but the witholding is so engrained in her mind, that she cannot help it and doesn't even realize she is doing it. My favorite analogy is that is like telling a person with anorexia- "Just Eat!" If it were that simple they would, and if Madison could just stop doing this she would. So, we are working with some great people right now to get the help necessary. In time she will regain function and we are hoping to get to the root of the emotional aspect as well. I am not telling this to "air her dirty laundry", but more so for people to understand what Madison is going through. This is very stressful and upsetting for Madison and it is important for people around her to realize that this is a medical condition and is quite serious- it is not a phase, it is not for attention, it is not laziness, it is not her rebelling against toilet training, it is something big that she is dealing with it and I am very proud of her for being such a brave little girl!!!! This is also part of our "busy-ness" as it's very time consuming with the protocols we are following, the special diet, and the appointments.

Aside from this Madison remains the happiest little girl! She is still always talking or singing and loves to perform for others! She is still taking gymnastics and dance and enjoys both of them, but loves gymnastics the most! She has become much more social than ever before which is so nice to see :). Madison is very into her clothes these days and will change them several times per day. She is also very independent and does most things on her own and often reminds you the she is grown and doesn't need help!!

Madison loved the holidays and cried when they were over! She wanted more Christmas! She loved all of the activities leading up to Christmas and of course enjoyed the goodies that Santa brought!

Visit with Santa

In December we went to see Cinderella's Christmas Show with Auntie Sheri and Maddie's Best Friend Angie. They were the cutest Cinderellas there!

We also went to cut down our Christmas Tree, even though it was raining! Maddie really enjoyed decorating the three this year. She knew just where she wanted to put certain ornaments-- who cares if there were 3 on the same branch!

Maddie enjoyed the snow in December and loved making snowmen and sledding. She really wanted Mimi to go sledding too and wanted to push her down the hill, but Mimi chose to watch from indoors!

Maddie enjoyed a trip to NYC. She liked the train ride and really enjoyed the BIG piano at FAO Shwartz. We met Goofy, Chip, and Dale at the Disney Store and saw the beautiful Christmas tree as well. She keeps asking to go back to New York....
Maddie also was a great helper with making christmas cookies, decorating them, decorating a gingerbread house and helping with wrapping too!

Santa came and treated Maddie well this year as she was such a good girl all year long!

In January we did lots of playing in the snow, and staying warm as well. We also went to Disney on Ice, which Maddie loved.

And lastly, Maddie was my extra special little Valentine this year!!
